Our Lady of Guadalupe

As we have learned, Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego in 1531 at the Tepeyac Hill (Mexico). The original tilma where the Blessed Virgin imprinted her image can be seen today in the Basilica of Guadalupe

aised 30 ft. of the ground and protected with bulletproof glass. This beautiful image is full of meanings as she stands before the sun, over a crescent moon, with her head bowed and her hands held in prayer indicating she is not God herself, she prays to Him for us. Scientists have been amazed even of the simple fact that after almost 500 years the image is still as clear and preserved specially because the material is made from natural plant fibers, that would have disintegrated in 20 to 60 years and has also withstood a flood and a fire. Also, those who had studied this image noticed the starts on her gown are aligned as they were in the sky on that early morning of her apparition. Another miraculous fact, it's the reflection in her eyes of the moment when the tilma was revealed to the Spanish Bishop. The Blessed Virgin revealed herself, not only to Juan Diego and the 8 million people who converted after her apparition but to all of us, that we may have faith and remember her own words: “Listen, and let it penetrate your heart, my dear little son; do not be troubled or weighted down with grief. Do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain. Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your fountain of life? Are you not in the folds of my mantle? In the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else you need?”
