Overview

Where we were...
               The parish community of St. Gabriel the Archangel parish was established in the September of 2007 in Chestermere Alberta after starting as a mission of St. Mark’s before that.  Since then, Mass has been celebrated in the gymnasium of St. Gabriel the Archangel school. Over the years we have grown as a family community and have build familial friendship as a parish, every summer we have a parish hiking trip called "Angels on High".
Where we are...
          We are inspired by faith, while following God’s path to receive His grace, as together we build a community that welcomes, nurtures and supports  “For nothing will be impossible with God.” Luke 1:37
Where we are heading...
         " The perfect church service, would be one we were almost unaware of. Our attention would have been on God" (C.S. Lewis). Our parish of St. Gabriel’s is working toward having our own church building where we can forget about all other things, and immerse ourselves in our relationship with God as CS Lewis says above. We will build a Church that welcomes and creates opportunities to gather in friendship and faith. We will move beyond our walls in compassion and service.

Evangelization and the New Church
Thirteen years ago, we moved from Strathmore to the Chestermere area. For the previous ten years, I was setting up for and attending mass in a school gym. The church was condemned; many followers had scattered; vowing to never attend mass in a gym. I joined the Building Committee of Saint Gabriels to not only work toward building a House of God, but also to bring new followers to our church, and to be prepared with open arms, to welcome back those who have walked away. The very early meetings of our Building Committee did not focus on bricks and mortar, they focused on a mission statement and a Strategic Plan that placed evangelization and the growth of our parish, as a foundational reason for building our new church. Approximately 15% of Chestermere residents are Catholic. Of these, 1519 families are registered with our parish; approximately 400 members attend regularly. Building a church to hold 600 parishioners, means that we must do some vital work now, to ensure that our pews will be well used.

Building Committee news

Did you know that we own our land? Our ten acres is on the south side of Rainbow Road. We require five acres for the church and our parking lot. We are working with the Chestermere council members and their representatives to monitor when services for water, electrical and waste will be coming to our land. We presently have two million dollars in our building fund. It will take six to seven million to build our church. Can you imagine your children being married in our church? Please support our building fund, so our years of planning can become our reality; "for nothing is impossible with God."
